Vietnam Political Cartoon

In this cartoon, the artist is depicting how the USA was being pulled deeper and deeper into the war against Communism in Southern Asia. Many people were against the US joining the war in Vietnam because of this exact reason: they worried that the US would become way to involved in other countries priorities that didn’t matter to the welfare of the United States. Although many people did not want to engage in the Vietnam War, many politicians believed if we could help create Vietnam a democratized country, we could have more foreign resources for trade and military alliances in time of war. Some of these goals were accomplished, while others crumbled and fell apart as the US eventually pulled all military forces out of Vietnam. Even though the US did gain some resources from fighting in the Vietnam War, ultimately it was a waste of lives and dragged the US into the problems of Asia, just as this picture displays, that the government should not have engaged in.
